Is China's new energy production capacity really "surplus"? Listen to what experts and entrepreneurs say

Driven by the United States, the recently concluded meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the group of seven countries issued a statement to speculate on the so-called "overcapacity theory" of China's new energy ". Driven by the United States, the recently concluded meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the group of seven countries issued a statement to speculate on the so-called "overcapacity theory" of China's new energy ". At the 14th China Foreign Investment Cooperation Fair held on the 27th, the reporter found through investigation and interview that China's new energy industry has formed a competitive advantage in the market through continuous innovation. From the perspective of the huge potential on the demand side, the production capacity is far from "excess".

"This is the most cutting-edge sodium-ion battery, is it possible to say that this battery is also surplus?" At the meeting, Wu Dahui, executive vice president of the China Industry Overseas Development Association and vice president of the Russian Research Institute at Tsinghua University, said, "Many Chinese companies are pursuing high-tech and technological innovation. This kind of technology is just starting in China, and it is impossible to talk about the problem of surplus."

The company that developed sodium ion battery technology is Huaihai Holdings from Xuzhou. Chairman An Jiwen said: "Sodium-ion batteries should be an alternative to lithium-ion batteries for energy storage and will replace the entire field of application of batteries. The application of this technology is very broad and will be explosive, and I see it as a renaissance industry for human society."

Huang Yonggang, a doctor of economics and a member of the Beijing Fengtai District CPPCC, said that from exporting to the sea is increasingly becoming an important development strategy for Chinese enterprises.

Why do you say that? Huang Yonggang explained that because China has now entered the process of transforming from an agricultural and industrial civilization to an intelligent and information-based civilization, each country and region is at a different stage of development, with some countries still just entering industrialization and others still having an agricultural civilization. However, China has entered post-industrialization, such as Beijing's modern service industry has exceeded 70%, and the economic development stage of each region is different.

Thailand, the traditional automobile industry chain is complete. However, before Chinese enterprises settled in, there was no complete new energy and intelligent automobile industry chain. "First, we go to sea with advanced technology and advanced products; second, we go to sea with China's leading supply chain of new energy vehicles. We have a factory in Thailand and are developing very fast." Liu Feilei, secretary of the board of directors of GAC, could not hide his pride. "in February this year, we had a 14.2 per cent share of the pure electric new energy vehicle market in Thailand, ranking first."

The president of the China Industry Overseas Development Association and Zhenwei said that because of the cost performance, we have caused dissatisfaction from some Western countries. In fact, China's new energy "overcapacity" is completely nonsense. China's new energy vehicles have been very influential in the world and have been recognized by most countries in the world.

"Advanced production capacity is never surplus." Cui Haifeng, vice chairman of Asahi Technology, a company focusing on high-efficiency solar cells and modules, said, "We have always adhered to mass production of a generation of products, while stockpiling a generation of products, and immediately developing a generation of products, which is always a small step ahead in the industry. Some of the international thresholds are a crisis, an opportunity and a driving force for our companies going global."

According to the International Energy Agency, in order to achieve the carbon neutral target, the global demand for new energy vehicles will reach 45 million in 2030, 4.5 times that of 2022. The global demand for new photovoltaic installations will reach 820 gigawatts, about four times that of 2022. The current production capacity is far from meeting the market demand, and many developing countries have a huge potential demand for new energy products.

At the round table meeting, Vladimir Norov, former Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, said that Central Asia is rich in renewable energy, including photovoltaic, hydropower and wind power. The use of these clean energy sources can not only meet the energy needs of the region, but also help the region gradually withdraw from fossil fuels and achieve net zero emissions. China is a very important investment partner in Central Asia.

On the occasion of the forum, Lembek Batalov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs in Atamecken, Kazakhstan, said, "China is one of the top five sources of investment in Kazakhstan. We are willing to continue to expand cooperation with China in the energy sector and tap the potential of energy cooperation between the two countries."

"China is an important contributor, and even a leader, in the development of new energy sources around the world. The reduction in costs actually provides an important opportunity for the world to realize the development of renewable energy on a larger scale and to replace traditional fossil energy sources." Yang Lei, deputy dean of the Energy Research Institute of Peking University, said.
